The 2021 MY Education Awards – last chance to nominate!

If you have not yet registered your nomination for the 2021 MY Education Awards, now is the time to do it! The deadline has been extended until 5pm, Thursday 5 August 2021.

The MY Education Awards recognise excellence in the learning support sector. The Awards showcase outstanding contributions Out-of-School-Hours Learning Support Programs make to the learning and engagement of students from migrant and refugee backgrounds in Victoria.

Edgar Caballero from the Banksia Gardens Homework Club – 2020 winner of the ‘Out of School Hours Learning Support Program (OSHLSP) of the Year’ – shares his views about the value of the awards for the community and the sector.

Edgar Caballero, Education and Sustainability Coordinator at Banksia Gardens Community Services

“These awards are an effort to bring together the community; to build links within organisations working in community services. Without this kind of initiative it would be like islands of individual effort”, says Edgar, Education and Sustainability Coordinator.

Organisations across Victoria are encouraged to nominate their programs, students and volunteers in the following categories:

  • OSHLSP of the Year – Metropolitan
  • OSHLSP of the Year – Regional/Rural
  • Outstanding Volunteer – Metropolitan
  • Outstanding Volunteer – Regional/Rural
  • Outstanding Secondary Student
  • Outstanding Primary Student

This year the awards are marking the highly valued contribution of long-serving volunteers in OSHLSPs. If you know of a volunteer who has been supporting your program for five years or more, they can be nominated in this category!

“Participating in the awards makes you aware of the work your organisation is doing alongside other organisations, the Government, or even people who want to volunteer”, Edgar highlights.

Finally, Edgar states that being a My Education Award Winner is a recognition that keeps the team and volunteers motivated to strive for greater impact within the community.

“Talking about being an award winner is something we are proud of; to celebrate the recognition of the work that has been done.”
