Meet the WYPIN Committee for 2024

Each year, WYPIN is made up of a group of 10 young people from the Western suburbs of Melbourne. The group often comprises of a mix of returning and new members. Meet WYPIN’s 2024 committee: Bond, Eliza, Grace, Irenio, Jenny, Julie, Sebastian and Mohammed.

As a collective the WYPIN Committee has a number of WHY’s. This year, WYPIN looks to:

1. Be a group of young people who help other young people.
2. Create a sense of community in the West, bringing together like minded individuals.
3. Participate in youth work and provide thoughts and ideas on what can be changed in the local community.
4. Be an engaged and active part of the local community.

In initial meetings at the start of the year, the group got together to determine their beliefs and values, which will drive the work that they do for the rest of the year. WYPIN 2024 are underpinned by values and beliefs in:

WYPIN has been recognised for their work across a number of awards, including being nominated for the 7 News Young Achiever Awards for the second year running. This year, they look to be even bigger and better, looking to map out their first WYPIN project, planting seeds for the next WYPIN generation. In their work, WYPIN have a number of focus areas.

Leadership
As a passionate group of young people advocating for issues faced by multicultural communities, WYPIN are clear on who they are. WYPIN are young people for young people, ready to give the youth a chance by creating greater opportunities for their communities.

Advocacy
Empowering their community by learning from each other, and breaking down barriers and well as misconceptions often faced by multicultural young people in the West.

Capacity Building
Representing young people and uplifting their community, showcasing the ethnic diversity of the West. WYPIN hopes that their work enables the community to grow, thrive and prosper.

Challenging Racism
WYPIN’s work focuses on a multicultural lens, highlighting issues and challenges that are specific to people from different cultural backgrounds. Their lens is intersectional and encompasses multi-faith, race and genders.

Ultimately, WYPIN hopes that their work will empower young multicultural people in their community to make a positive impact, to believe in themselves and pave the way for the future generations to do the same.
