Honoring the contributions of OSHLSPs at the 7th MY Education Awards
The 7th annual MY Education Awards were held on 7 September 2021. This year, the awards commended the incredible contributions made by Out-of-School-Hours Learning Support Programs (OSHLSPs) that persevered through the pandemic to support the learning and engagement of students from migrant and refugee backgrounds in Victoria.
Delivered in an online format for a second year in a row, the event was hosted by the brilliant Faye Shee-Durnion, one of CMY’s Shout Out speakers. Lynn Laufou kicked off the event with her beautiful song titled ‘Rise Up’, which resonated with the Victorian audience after another difficult year in lockdown.
Keynote speaker and CMY’s Youth Advisory Group member, Anna Louey, moved the audience with her personal account of what ‘Bouncing Back’ and resilience meant to her. She shared her experiences of growing up as a child of immigrant parents in Melbourne, and recounted the pressures she faced at school.
The audience also heard from Tim Richardson MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Schools, and CMY CEO, Carmel Guerra, who presented the awards to each of the well-deserving winners.
A big shout out to Diversity Homework Club for persevering through the challenges of the lockdown and winning OSHLSP of the Year (Regional/Rural) for the second year running.
Winners also shared their insights about what kept them motivated to dedicate their time to young people through a challenging year.
Congratulations to all of our winners!
