Beyond Fairytales: An exhibition exploring gender equity and relationships through multicultural young leaders

Interested in exploring new perspectives on issues of gender equity and relationships in a playful and interactive space? Discover a world beyond fairytales at CMY’s interactive exhibition from the 1st of August.

Beyond Fairytales is a new exhibition led by multicultural young leaders from CMY’s Speak Up program, that shines a light on their personal perspectives on gender equity.

Boasting an array of unique photomedia, thought-provoking film, intricate sculptures and interactive artwork, the exhibition shares personal stories, critiques pop culture and provides reflective commentary on global movements, bringing awareness to the root causes of toxic relationships.

Beyond Fairytales is an exhibition not to miss, says CMY’s Senior Project Officer Zoraida Salazar.

“This exhibition asks us to consider what is missed, and what realities are hidden in the dominant gender fairytales we have grown up with,” she said. “It provides a safe and inclusive space for everyone to reflect on how to outgrow these fairytales and embrace new perspectives.”

Beyond Fairytales is kicking off with a launch event and opening ceremony on Wednesday the 2nd of August at the Phoenix Youth Centre in Footscray from 6-8pm. The launch is an exciting opportunity to meet the talented young leaders and Speak Up participants behind the exhibition’s artistic concept, and witness a captivating live performance by a multicultural young artist. Don’t miss the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations and be inspired to create positive change. Register now.

The exhibition is open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday from the 1st to the 30th of August at the Phoenix Youth Centre. Be sure to check it out! Find out more here.
