Statement on Middle East conflict
We are deeply concerned by the escalating conflict unfolding between Israel and Iran.
We have many staff, young people and families within the CMY community who have lived experiences of war and displacement, and the fear, suffering and trauma it brings with it – which is carried into future generations.
We stand in strength and solidarity with all communities whose lives have been impacted by this senseless and relentless war.
With respect for human rights as one of our core values, the shattering loss of civilian life, displacement, and violation of human rights is simply abhorrent. No young person deserves to grow up in conflict and crisis.
Our thoughts are with all those who have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety and protection, and rebuild their lives.
Whether internally displaced people or refugees who have crossed international borders, every journey is different – but the thing that connects them is the shared pursuit of safety and freedom. Freedom to live without fear, with their human rights upheld. Freedom to dream of a better future for their children, and to access opportunities that will shape their own path forward.
With the current global uncertainty and rising tensions, we understand this is a really difficult time for many young people and communities we work with. The fear and frustration can be all-consuming, the coverage can be overwhelming. Trying to focus on the day to day may be a struggle alongside the enormity of what is happening globally.
Please go gently with yourselves and each other. We encourage you to reach out to your support network, youth worker or the nearest support services if you are struggling.
