CEO message: May

With the Victorian State Budget 2023-24 released last week, we were pleased to see the Government continue to invest in essential and targeted support for multicultural young people and their families.

CMY was grateful to receive welcome news of continued funding for some of our critical programs, such as the South Sudanese Community Support Groups, Le Mana Pasifika Project, Regional Presence Program, MY Education, and CMSport.

In addition, there were investments in a number of key areas, which will significantly support multicultural young people, their families and communities. Read our release here.

National Volunteer Week

Earlier this month we celebrated National Volunteer Week (15-21 May). Volunteers are a significant and crucial part of CMY’s workforce, with over 700 volunteers contributing to a range of programs across the organisation.

We hosted a special event during the week to acknowledge and thank ‘the Change Makers’ who contribute their time, energy and skills throughout CMY, to ensure multicultural young people are connected, supported, and empowered. Read more here.

National Reconciliation Week

This week is National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). It’s an opportunity for all of us to reflect on our shared histories, cultures and achievements; and to listen and learn from the voices and experiences of First Nations people. The 2023 theme for National Reconciliation Week, ‘Be a Voice for Generations’, encourages all of us to contribute in tangible ways to reconciliation, every single day.

CMY is committed to our own reconciliation journey through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Through this plan, we see our responsibility is to help to strengthen connections between multicultural young people, communities and First Nations people, to walk together and work together to address systemic issues of political and social exclusion, economic disadvantage, and health inequality.

As we approach the end of our inaugural RAP, we’re reflecting on the progress made within our organisation so far, and looking towards actions to build upon in our next RAP.
