Culturally Responsive Youth Practice


We offer public training sessions (online or in-person) called Culturally Responsive Youth Practice Training (CRYP). This training takes part over two sessions, where CMY facilitators teach the skills for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Each training takes 3.5 hours, is suitable for anyone working directly or indirectly with multicultural young people and includes:

Part 1: Culturally Responsive Youth Practice

  • Explore concepts of culture and its influence on worldview.
  • Examine implicit bias as it relates to cultural responsiveness.
  • Gain knowledge, skills and attitudes that support a culturally responsive approach.
  • Identify strategies for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Part 2: Young People and Settlement

  • Explore pre-migration and migration experiences of young people.
  • Build awareness of settlement experiences faced by newly-arrived young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
  • Identify factors which impact good settlement for young people. Introduction to the National Youth Settlement Framework.
  • Apply relevant strategies for effective work with newly-arrived young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.
