Are you Under 16? Here’s how to still stay connected with CMY.

The Australian government’s social media ban (or delay) for all Australians under the age of 16 is now in effect.

At CMY, we know from our work and research that social media can be both vital and harmful for young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. Recently we held a statewide forum on the ban, which raised lots of interesting insights and earlier this year, our Youth Intern, Isa, shared her perspectives and deconstructed the discussions.

Social media is a great platform for us to connect with multicultural young people, but now it’s a little trickier for us to stay in touch with our full cohort of young people. So if you’re under 16, here are some alternative ways for you to keep up to date with news and opportunities!

Our website is your go-to hub for everything CMY. You’ll find information about our programs, research, events, jobs and volunteer opportunities, plus news and feature stories. Don’t miss our Youth Opportunities page – it’s where we share the latest programs and opportunities for young people. This gets regularly updated so check in to see what’s new!

The Mix is our monthly newsletter written by our Youth Intern and made specifically for young people. It’s packed with job ads, volunteer roles, updates and special opportunities for multicultural youth.

(You can also subscribe to the CMY Voice to stay across general CMY latest news, events, stories and ways to get involved.)

You can call us on 9340 3700, email us at info@cmy.net.au or visit us at our different office locations around Victoria! You can find our office locations and phone numbers on our Contact page.

You can learn more about the new restrictions and how to approach it via the eSafety Commissioner social media age restrictions hub or headspace has also broken this down for young people.

We know that this ban can adversely affect young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. If you are struggling, check in with your support systems, or you can also reach out to:
