Statewide Forum: The Social Media Ban & Multicultural Young People

Our statewide forums bring together stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to share knowledge, influence policy, and build networks that support multicultural young people to thrive.

This year’s forum will explore the impacts of the Australian social media ban for multicultural and newly arrived young people, drawing on CMY’s recent research and engaging voices from across government, research, and the sector. Attendance is free.

With implementation fast approaching, the event will include:

  • An address from CMY’s CEO, Carmel Guerra OAM, followed by a presentation of key findings from research conducted by CMY.
  • A youth-moderated “In Conversation” panel, featuring representatives from youth, research, and communications backgrounds.
  • An interactive workshop offering participants the opportunity to share practice and explore the opportunities and challenges of implementation.

The forum aims to:

  • Explore how young people can be supported through this transition, without losing access to connection, services or information.
  • Explore urgent questions about how to reach underserved communities without the use of social media.
  • Build connections and support collaborative action, ideas and shared practice.
