Culturally Responsive Youth Practice Training

We offer Culturally Responsive Youth Practice Training (CRYP) where CMY facilitators guide participants through training content to support effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. These sessions strengthen professionals’ cultural awareness, practical strategies and confidence to create inclusive environments.

What this training includes:

CRYP runs as two complementary sessions (each 3.5 hours), designed to give participants both knowledge and practical tools they can use in their work.

Part 1: Culturally Responsive Youth Practice

  • Explore concepts of culture and its influence on worldview.
  • Examine implicit bias as it relates to cultural responsiveness.
  • Gain knowledge, skills and attitudes that support a culturally responsive approach.
  • Identify strategies for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Part 2: Young People and Settlement

  • Explore pre-migration and migration experiences of young people.
  • Build awareness of settlement experiences faced by newly-arrived young people from refugee and migrant backgrounds.
  • Identify factors which impact good settlement for young people. Introduction to the National Youth Settlement Framework.
  • Apply relevant strategies for effective work with newly-arrived young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

Who should attend

This training is suitable for anyone working directly or indirectly with multicultural young people, including youth workers, case managers, teachers, librarians, sport and recreation staff, volunteers and leaders across government, not-for-profit, education, health, justice and community sectors.

  • Throughout the year we offer a limited number of training sessions open to the public. This is ideal if you’re an individual wanting to participate. At the moment we are planning our 2026 dates and will publish these soon.
