Reverb addresses mental health in culturally diverse communities through workshops and consultations. The program is family focused and uses lived experience to address discrimination, build connection, and increase young people’s confidence to seek support.

This program can be tailored to your school context and typically runs for one term.

Reverb was initiated by CMY’s Youth Advisory Group in 2018 and is co-designed and co-delivered by young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds with lived experience of mental illness, mental health service providers and CMY.

Workshops:

1. Professional development session for teachers and school staff

This session shares knowledge of the complexity and stigma around mental health in multicultural communities, explores personal and organisational bias, reflects on barriers multicultural young people face in accessing services, and shares good practice for engaging multicultural young people in mental health service delivery.

2hrs, online or in-person, minimum of 10 participants

2. Student workshops (x3)

In these workshops, students will have the opportunity to hear other young people’s experiences of overcoming mental ill health and learn from practical, participant-led strategies that encourage better mental health outcomes.

1hr, online or in-person, delivered with up to three different groups, maximum of 30 participants per group

3. Parent and community conversation

This session is targeted towards adults in migrant and refugee communities, focusing on addressing the needs of multicultural youth mental health and intergenerational barriers they face in seeking support.

2hrs, in-person, up to 30 family members

Additional support provided to schools include:

  • Secondary consultation and support to school staff
  • A user-friendly report outlining workshop findings, participant outcomes and recommendations for future initiatives

The basic cost to participate is $9,639.30 per school. Additional costs apply for rural and regional travel. Please request for a quote.
