Guided by over 35 years of experience working with multicultural young people, Explore connects universities, government, NGOs, and research institutions to Youth Researchers.

Facilitating, supporting and guiding these partnerships and collaborations, Explore ensures safe and ethical practice, allowing researchers to focus on creating meaningful impact through their work.

If you’re undertaking research relating to the experiences of multicultural young people from refugee or migrant backgrounds, our Youth Researchers can help.

Through their lived experience and training, CMY’s Youth Researchers are actively contributing their insight and perspective to research projects across Victoria.

To us, this means working in partnership with those who are creating new knowledge and documenting evidence.

Equally, it means collaborating with and supporting the efforts of young people and communities to inform this evidence and influence how knowledge is created and value.

What are

Who is Explore for?

Explore youth researchers have training in facilitation, research and co-design skills and knowledge, and have been introduced to a range of tools that promote youth participation in research, consultation and evaluation.

They can support research projects in various roles, including:

• As co-researchers

• As facilitators

• As data analysts

• As evaluators


What do Youth Researchers do?

The Explore youth researchers are a team of young people from wide-ranging cultural, academic, and community backgrounds with training in research, facilitation, leadership and a drive to push the standards of youth engagement in research.

Their experience and training allow them to participate in research projects with:

• Not-for-profit sector

• Research institutions

• Universities

• Government


When Should I consider a Youth Researcher?

Explore youth researchers can be engaged at any stage of the research process, including:

• Workshopping themes, topics or scope of research.

• Design, co-design or consultation on research methods.

• Facilitation or co-facilitation of focus groups and interviews, dissemination of surveys and participant recruitment and engagement.

• Analysing data, reviewing research tools, translating findings.

• Program Evaluation.

Adriel (he/him) is a first-generation immigrant with a profound commitment to mental health, cultural identity, and social justice. Born in Sri Lanka and arriving in Australia as a young refugee of Tamil heritage, Adriel is a current medical student who brings a unique and empathetic perspective to his work.

Adriel has actively engaged with various organisations, including the Department of Home Affairs, Orygen, Youth Affairs Council Victoria, and Headspace, contributing to initiatives focused on improving the well-being of young people. His lived experience as a refugee fuels his passion for advocating for marginalised communities and addressing the intersectional challenges they face.

Driven by a desire to bridge the gap between healthcare and social equity, Adriel aspires to contribute to research and policy that promotes inclusive and culturally sensitive support for young people. He believes in the power of lived experience and community engagement to create meaningful change.

Adriel

Florencia is a young lawyer and researcher with a passion for human rights and international law. She graduated with honors and pursued diplomas in International Policy Analysis and Migrant and Refugee Protection, the latter being her main area of interest.
Over the past year, she collaborated with an NGO focused on the promotion and defense of human rights within the Inter-American Human Rights System. She co-coordinated a diverse team of interns and assisted in the research and drafting of legal documents, in particular a shadow report on women deprived of their liberty, which will soon be submitted to the United Nations.
Additionally, she has participated in various international programs that promote youth leadership and cultural diversity. She is recognized for her strong skills in research, critical thinking, and effective written and verbal communication.
