Working with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds.

This training explores the essential skills and knowledge required for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds, their families and communities.

PLEASE NOTE: This training takes place over TWO sessions:

Part 1 Tuesday 20 April, 9.30am – 1pm AND

Part 2 Wednesday 21 April, 9.30am- 1pm.

Please attend both sessions. There is a single payment of $90 which covers both.

This in-depth training, now delivered remotely in two half-day sessions, explores the essential skills and knowledge required for effective work with young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. The training modules are designed to be applicable across a broad range of sectors and for work with young people from any community. Participants will improve their confidence and capacity to provide a culturally inclusive and responsive service for young people.

The training program includes two modules:

Culturally Responsive Practice

Explore concepts of culture and identity, learn about the cultural responsiveness framework, reflect on cross-cultural interactions and communication skills and identify and apply culturally responsive practice strategies to support effective work with young people.

Young People and Settlement

Identify key pre-settlement experiences for young people, particular those with a refugee background, explore factors which impact on good settlement for young people, identify and apply strategies for supporting good settlement.
