International Volunteer Day celebrations

On Thursday 1st of December, CMY marked International Volunteer Day (celebrated annually on 5 December) by hosting an event to thank the dedicated volunteers who tirelessly support the young people involved in our programs.

More than 60 volunteers from YRIPP, Ucan2, Employment Empowers, Youth-Led Unit, Le Mana Pasifika Youth Project, Shout Out and Speak Up attended the event at the Multicultural Hub, hosted by youth volunteers, Emily Unity and Hashwina Vimalarajan.

Carmel Guerra, CMY CEO kicked off the event with a speech about how the organisation has evolved over the years and what the future holds for CMY. She expressed her gratitude for the incredible contribution our volunteers make to young people and to the organisation, as CMY’s work wouldn’t be possible without their help. Carmel also reflected on how important it is that our volunteers reflect the diversity of the Victorian community.

Carmel gave a special acknowledgement to long-serving volunteers, and thanked them for their dedication over a number of years:

  • Megan Gallagher (5 Years, YRIPP)
  • Jeff Parson (14 Years, YRIPP)
  • Marie Holmes (14 Years, YRIPP)
  • Rosemary Chapple (15 Years, YRIPP)
  • Wayne Smith (since the start of YRIPP 18+ Years)
  • Kayla Calimbayan (5 semesters with Ucan2, at times volunteering at two sites in a semester)
  • Chris Knight (5 years, Employment Empowers)
