Lalor Gardens Primary School is located in the North of Melbourne and currently has 410 students enrolled. Of these students, 258 are EAL students and 11 students are from a refugee background. 83% of students come from a language background other than English, predominantly Arabic, Macedonian and Vietnamese.
As part of RESP the school identified that more support was required for students from refugee backgrounds. The school also identified that capacity building was required for families to support their children’s learning at home. Based on these needs, the school decided that students would most benefit from a project focused on family engagement.
