In the past few years, I have been involved in education and advocacy spaces mainly aimed at people seeking asylum. Through this, I have been fortunate to meet and work with many incredible people and these opportunities have furthered my drive to contribute positively. The MY Education team at CMY offered a way for me to translate my skills in a structural setting, as well as the prospect of continuing to meet incredible people and programs.
I love meeting passionate people who work hard to grow their various programs. It is very inspiring to see how hard coordinators, volunteers, school staff and tutors work to ensure students from migrant and refugee backgrounds have the best possible chance of success in an education setting.
Out-of-school-hours Learning Support Programs exist to increase the capacity and confidence of students from a migrant or refugee background. The thing I like most about working with OSHLSPs is being a part of strengthening the support network around students, working to minimise potential barriers.
