Launched in 2015, CMY's I Speak Football program is a youth-led program that uses football to tackle social inclusion head on.
Part of Cityzens Giving’, a global community initiative that extends the ‘football effect’ to areas of need across the globe, the project is run in partnership with City Football Group, which includes Manchester City Football Club, New York City Football Club and Melbourne City Football Club.
Through running free football sessions across Victoria for young people from diverse backgrounds, the program aims to address and highlight racism and discrimination, access and equality, and participation. The project also provide skills and qualifications to 20 volunteer young leaders who receive accredited refereeing and coaching qualifications to run the sessions.
“Football is a universal language and this project gives young people the opportunity to participate and be included in the community, irrespective of their cultural background or whether they speak English or not.” - I Speak Football Young Leader, James Dawood
