Volunteer With Us - YRIPP

The Youth Referral and Independent Person Program (YRIPP) is seeking committed volunteers to assist young people at police stations throughout Victoria.

What does it take to be a volunteer with YRIPP?

Independent Persons, or IP’s, are volunteers who attend police interviews with a young person when a parent or guardian is not available. The role provides an important opportunity to support young people at a critical time and help divert those at risk of further offending.

YRIPP volunteers need good communication skills, an openness to diversity and other peoples' values, and a willingness to be challenged and to learn. YRIPP is open to people from a diverse range of ages, work, education and life experiences. Have a look through our list of
Selection Criteria for YRIPP volunteers.

Potential volunteers can apply online or download an Application Kit (PDF), attend an information session and have a short interview.

To open a PDF file you must have version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader software installed.

Information Sessions

Information sessions are held regularly for people to find out more about being an Independent Person, what it’s like to volunteer for YRIPP and what the training will cover. This is your best chance to have all your questions answered before the training begins. Information sessions run for about 2 hours and are mostly held in the evenings.

You will need to book into the next Information session closest to you. If you are still interested in becoming an IP you can register for the upcoming training program in your area.
