In 2010, CMY will be running free training for tutors in Homework or Tutoring Programs for school-aged students. The training runs over two sessions (Saturdays or weekday evenings) and can help tutors to:
- Build a greater understanding of educational theory and practice;
- Understand the experiences of students and how they may effect their learning;
- Develop positive relationships and contribute positively to the learning environment;
- Develop a range of skills and help to build a collection of resources, strategies and plans to use in learning support sessions;
- Provide you with a more in depth understanding of your role as a tutor;
- Strengthen the knowledge and skills base of your program.
The training covers a number of areas including:
- The Refugee Experience and how it effects learning;
- Creating a positive learning environment including building positive relationships and cultural awareness;
- Strategies for supporting learning in a range of subject areas;
