Multicultural Youth Pledge - CMYI - Centre for multicultural youth issues

The Multicultural Youth Pledge is coordinated by CMYI. This campaign is working to set the record straight, get some balance into the discussion, counter myths and provide information about the situation of migrant and refugee young people.

The Pledge

I personally pledge to actively counter any negative stereotypes of migrant and refugee young people.
I pledge to tackle racism and discrimination in my own community and will work to foster the concepts of multiculturalism.

To fulfill the Multicultural Youth Pledge, we need decision makers at all levels to:

  • Actively counter negative stereotypes developing around African, particularly Sudanese young people,
  • Work harder to engage with and promote the skills, knowledge and energy of migrant and refugee young people,
  • Develop a national strategy to tackle racism and discrimination,
  • Fund comprehensive research into the real situation for migrant and refugee young people,
  • Increase targeted funding for support services for migrant and refugee young people.

Dear [name],

I have signed the Multicultural Youth Pledge. A pledge that states that I will actively counter any negative stereotypes of migrant and refugee young people. I think we need to work harder to engage with migrant and refugee young people, to promote their skills, knowledge and energy. We need a national strategy on racism and discrimination, new research and targeted funding for support services. I think we all need to tackle racism and discrimination and we need to foster the concepts of multiculturalism. I hope you can join with me in articulating these ideals in the lead up to the Federal election.

Yours sincerely,

[Your name]

I have signed the Multicultural Youth Pledge. A pledge that states that I will actively counter any negative stereotypes of migrant and refugee young people. I think we need to work harder to engage with migrant and refugee young people, to promote their skills, knowledge and energy. I’m tired of seeing negative stereotypes of migrant and refugee young people. Multiculturalism is something that has made our country strong, prosperous and unique and I think we all need to start recognising the importance of a diverse community.
