WHAT'S HAPPENING AT CMYI?

Sports Network

The first Multicultural Sports Network Meeting for 2007 was held on the 7th February, with over 70 people in attendance. The meeting was run in conjunction with Football Federation Victoria (Soccer) and speakers explored a variety of areas such as resources available from FFV, pathways into soccer for young women and examples of strategic partnerships. The meeting concluded with a presentation from the Department of Victorian Communities and VicHealth about their 2007 funding rounds, including pointers about what makes a strong application.

The network continues to be a venue for dialogue among key stakeholders, including workers with CLD communities, State Sporting Associations and other sporting peak bodies, state and local government. The network ensures all stakeholders are in the room so that each group can identify barriers and ways of addressing issues.

The next Multicultural Sports Network Meeting will aim to strengthen the links between sporting associations and emerging communities.

Muslim Youth Website

The Muslim Youth Website, Noor Events was launched in April 2006. It is the only website in Victoria dedicated entirely to Muslim youth events and is run independently by young people.

The main aim of the website is to promote participation in events both within the Muslim community and the broader community. The website also aims to combat isolation of many Muslim young people by keeping them informed of events, programs and relevant services.

Noor Events is currently unfunded and not-for-profit. Not only is the website informative, but also interactive, allowing users to promote events that are taking place in your local area.

If you want to check out the website, go to:

It will also be a dialogue where young people can learn how to get more involved and set up there own organization”.
