Volunteering with Learning Beyong the Bell - CMY - Centre for Multicultural Youth

Volunteering with Learning Beyond the Bell

Become a volunteer and make a difference

  • Are you interested in learning more about people from refugee and migrant backgrounds?
  • Do you have an interest in sharing your knowledge to support learning?
  • Would you like to receive FREE training in supporting students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds?

The Learning Beyond the Bell OSHLSP Project, funded by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, represents a partnership between CMY and a number of agencies delivering learning support programs across Melbourne. As a volunteer you will be referred to an OSHLSP depending on convenience for you and program need. The agency delivering the OSHLSP will be responsible for processing your application and all aspects of the management and supervision of your work as a volunteer.

CMY is looking for committed volunteers to assist students from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Out of School Hours Learning Support Programs (OSHLSPs) across Victoria. OSHLSP tutors work with primary and secondary students who require additional learning support outside school hours. Tutors may work individually or with small groups of students and provide assistance with literacy, homework subjects or general study skills. Volunteers play in important role in improving the confidence of young people, helping them both socially and academically to participate in school in a more meaningful way.

The commitment is one evening tuition session each week. Volunteering opportunities are available in schools, community centres and libraries across Melbourne.

To register your interest or to find out more about volunteer opportunities in your area, please complete the expression of interest form below or contact
Megan Nutbean at CMY on (03) 9340 3714 or mnutbean@cmy.net.au.

Please note that all volunteers are required to complete a satisfactory Working With Children Check.
