Building Relationships and Initiating Change (BRIC) Program
|
- Are you a group/committee/network/association of young people from newly arrived communities aged between 16-25 years old?
|
- Do you live, work or meet in the western suburbs?
|
- Looking for support to achieve your goals?
|
|
CMY, with funding from the Office for Youth, is co-ordinating a new and exciting group mentoring initiative, the Building Relationships and Initiating Change (BRIC) Program.
The BRIC Program aims to support groups/committees/networks/associations of young people from newly arrived and culturally and linguistically diverse communities through mentoring to facilitate skill and knowledge development.
|
The BRIC Program is currently recruiting mentors! Volunteer BRIC Mentors will meet approximately once a fortnight for 2 hours with the youth group with which they are matched. Through the development of supportive relationships, mentors will share their skills, knowledge and experiences with young people to further develop the capacity of their youth-groups and/or youth-led initiatives.
For more information, download the Mentor Position Description and Application Form or contact Caitlin Wilks at CMY either by post, email or fax. Contact Caitlin on 9340 3700, 0419 779 553 or cwilks@cmy.net.au if you have any questions or queries about the application form and program.
Applications close Monday 23 June.

Volunteering with Learning Beyond the Bell
|
CMY's Learning Beyond the Bell Project is looking for committed volunteers to assist students from refugee and migrant backgrounds in Out of School Hours Learning Support Programs (OSHLSPs) across Victoria. OSHLSP tutors work with primary and secondary students who require additional learning support outside school hours. Tutors may work individually or with small groups of students and provide assistance with literacy, homework subjects or general study skills. Volunteers play in important role in improving the confidence of young people, helping them both socially and academically to participate in school in a more meaningful way.
Interested in volunteering with an OSHLSP program? Visit the Volunteer section and apply online, or check out the Learning Beyond the Bell section for more information on the project.

Ways for young people to get involved
|
> Join the CMY Youth Participation Register
| CMY is regularly contacted by government departments (e.g. Office for Youth) and organisations wishing to involve CLD young people in activities or events they are organising. The purpose of the CMY Youth Participation Register is to compile a list of young people aged 16-25 who would like to be contacted when such opportunities arise.
Previously CMY has tended to contact young people directly involved in our mentoring, leadership and outreach programs. However through this register, CMY is now seeking to extend this to other CLD young people looking for opportunities to get involved.
If you would like to have your contact details added to the register, please fill out the ‘Information and Consent’ form and send to:
Centre for Multicultural Youth
304 Drummond Street
Carlton VIC 3053
Fax: (03) 9349 3766
or email: lmcgaw@cmy.net.au

Ways for individuals and organisations to get involved

> Participate in the Statewide Multicultural Youth Issues Network
| CMY's Statewide Network provides a regular forum in which workers who are engaged with CLD young people have the opportunity to meet and share information. Workers with specialised skills and knowledge impart current information about their experiences to their colleagues. Individual participants are also given the chance to network with other workers in the field. CMY facilitates the Statewide Network Meetings on a quarterly basis.
If you would like to be notified of upcoming Statewide Network meetings, email your contact details to info@cmy.net.au or call (03) 9349 3466.
For more information about upcoming or past Statewide Network Meetings, go to the Statewide webpage
